School-Aged Classes

Most school-age classes begin with the fundamentals for a medium. TeachArt2Me teaches beginners techniques before creative expression. We believe that without technical knowledge one can encounter frustration in expressing oneself creatively. Older school-aged children, and children who have command of the medium, will find our level two classes incorporate both freedom and creativity with the technical support needed to ensure success. Much like "swim lessons" not all students will progress to the next level upon completion and may be best off take a class multiple times to ensure success.

Kids Can Draw Beginners I: From still life to copy-art, figure to landscape, kids will learn to "rethink" what they see and break it down into lines, patterns, shapes and shadows. This is a basics class for those with little or no experience in formal 2D instruction.

Kids Can Draw Beginners II: A continuation of KCDB1 for kids that are not quite ready for Intermediate drawing or who need to 'refresh' or relearn if it's been a while.

Kids Can Draw Intermediate: A focus on creative expression and composition, this class goes beyond the basics of drawing and is designed for anyone who has completed Kids Can Draw Beginners I and II, has taken previous drawing classes or has permission from the instructor.

Cartooning I: Learn the classic American style cartooning in this comical class. Our own imaginary friends will come to life as we learn to draw, color, and animate! No anime or Manga will be covered in this class.

Cartooning II: Students will create a comic book with their own unique hero/heroine, villain, side characters, and plot. They will learn to put their characters into action, tell a story and express themselves.

Intro to Painting I: Watercolors, acrylics and tempera. Learn to create with color - monochromatic to Monet - we will touch many aspects of painting, including an introduction to the masters! This course is technique based.

Painting II: Stepping into your own creative thoughts will be the focus. Using basic painting skills and techniques to learn self-expression and find your own personal style. We will look at some movements in the world of art to help excite and inspire. Students must have completed Intro to Painting I, Paint Perfect Summer Camp, or a comparable program. Contact instructor for permission.

Getting Dirty - Pinch, pull, push - magic will come from mush! For kids with no experience working with potter's clay. This class will give the basics to create works of art.

Clay Times: Pinch, coil, pellet and slab. These techniques and more will help you to create fun functional objects for you to cherish forever. Making your own clay is bound to create lasting memories as well as a pot or two! Dress for mess! (Extended to 8 weeks)

Clay Studio Short Track: This is the same as our regular clay studio but with only six weeks, five being “wet clay” and one of glazing.

Beginners Wheel: Always wanted to learn how to throw on the wheel? Now is your chance! We will learn centering and pulling a simple form; from there the possibilities are endless! We will also be introduced to the firing process and glazing. This can be messy - come dressed for a mess.

"Fun"-damentals of Drawing and Painting: This fun class explores the basics in drawing and painting with a new creative twist. Projects will reinforce technique, but a blending of both together will be stressed.

Drawing Animals: Learn how to develop images of everyday and exotic animals using realism techniques as well as graphic imagery. We will also spend time in class creating 3-D models. A must for kids who love animals as well as those looking to strengthen their basic drawing skills. Prerequisite KCD Beginners I or permission of instructor.

Woodworking:In this class kids will not only work on pre-fabbed kits to learn to "build" with wood but we will also create projects from scratch using basic tools like hammers, screwdrivers and dremels - we will NOT be using saws - all wood will be precut for safety reasons. Staining, sanding and other surface design will be covered as well.

Pop Art, Printmaking & Graphics: Create images for products we use everyday! Make repeating prints for posters, T-shirts, and more. Learn the 'art' behind advertising and logos. Students will also participate in a poster/t-shirt design 'contest' for a New England food pantry - winners will see their images used on t-shirts and more! All students will participate in a show at the end of the session.
